SEARCHing radio continuum source SURveys for overlap with a given area of sky

OVERVIEW:

A database has been created, listing surveys of radio continuum sources. The information contained in an entry in the list includes the area of sky it covers. SURSEARCH looks for an overlap between a user-specified area of sky and the area in each entry, and prints a list of all surveys which overlap the area of interest. The intent is to alert the user to all (useful) publications which may contain radio-continuum information on sources in a particular field. An entry (such as the 3CR or Parkes catalogue) may be flagged as 'All-sky', and the user may suppress the listing of these entries.

INSTALLATION: The software is written in FORCE (a derivative of FORTRAN), but comes with a pre-processor which is itself written in FORTRAN. The entire package needs ... of disc space and can be obtained from the author.
Subsidiary programs: INSURVEY - adds entries to the database. PRSURVEY - produces a list of the entire database.

Some details:
* The field of interest may be defined by the limits on a 'box'
(either RA and Dec in B1950 or J2000, or galactic latitude and longitude),
or by the central position and diameter of a circle
(in any of the three coordinate systems).
* The user specifies whether to list only those overlapping surveys not
designated as 'All-sky', or only those which are, or both.
* The user specifies the earliest year to be included in the output list.
* The list of overlapping surveys is output to the terminal or printer.
* The hardcopy list of overlapping surveys gives in a header
  (a) the area specified for the search, in the original coordinate system
(marked *) and translated into the other two coordinate systems, (as
the search is conducted in the coordinate system of each entry).
  (b) a reminder of what 'All-sky' option was chosen.
* Each entry listed on the hardcopy output shows:
  - authors and year and journal reference
  - area of sky covered (as a box or circle, with an indication of the
    coordinate system used)
  - survey frequency (for multi-frequency surveys only the lowest frequency)
However, if the different frequencies imply different field sizes (e.g.
DRAO or 5C surveys), these appear as different entries.
  - standard designation of the catalogue (eg 3C, MSH, 54W, etc)
  - lower flux limit (for the frequency listed)
  - number of sources in survey/catalogue
  - comments: descriptive comment, in some cases the title of the publication.
* The database is a sequential, hence editable, file, with entries in
arbitrary order. New entries are added to the end.
* The choice of publications to include in the database is somewhat arbitrary.
There haa been an attempt to include all major surveys, and surveys of
limited regions, but publications which involve a small number of sources
scattered over a large region of sky are excluded. Ideally a balance should
be struck between listing everything useful to the user, and not producing
a voluminous list of publications which the user is not likely to consult.
